Ethical Fashion

At Cosmosophie, our atelier represents all that we believe in. The pleasure we take in good work and good old fashion. The care in the selection of fabrics and in all other processes. In our atelier, we breathe light and passion for our planet and its limited resources. We develop and create our pieces in our atelier, playing with all the materials and fabrics around us until each prototype is just as we want it.

We then enlist the help of our beloved designers, who through their experience and savoir faire turn it into the dress you will wear tomorrow.

In each of these stages we pay special attention and care both to the people involved in making each garmentand inthe environmental impact we generatein each of our steps

Cosmosphie & The People

We are totally disconnected from the people that produce the clothes we buy. More than 97% of our clothes are manufactured in countries with limited labour rights, by some of the worst-paid labourers in the world. Almost 98% of those are women. They could be us, our mothers or daughters.

At Cosmosophie we aim to integrate our workshops, designers and seamstresses in the production chain as integral members of our team. We not only familiarize ourselves with their working conditions, and we also negotiate fair prices for each and every piece they produce, which they consider fair.

A garment is not sown by a computer: it is sown by a person that spends hours sitting at a sowing machine. The good vibes and energy that a well-paid job creates carries through to the garment itself that we will then wear. It’s something intangible, it’s an invisible energy, but it is something we will feel when wearing it. And yes, it will be more expensive. We sometimes ponder in disbelief at the risible prices that the market pays those who make a piece of clothing, or at how productions chains are timed as if they were relay running races.

At Cosmosophie, we believe thatfashion should be like good cuisine: a good recipe, quality ingredients and, most important of all, time.. as in slow cooking, where the necessary times that allow each ingredient to bring our its best flavour are respected.

“Enjoy and love our dresses full of good vibes and energy”

Our clients appreciate these values and feel as content as we do in the knowledge that they are paying a little more for something that is more than a simple frock.

We support local employment and entrepreneurship

As entrepreneurs, we believe in the importance of supporting local employment and entrepreneurship, small industry and independent workshop that work hard to grow their business while paying fair salaries in the face of international competition.

Cosmosophie & the Environment

We manufacture our clothes with minimal environmental impact in mind. We work each day to reduce our CO2 footprint. All our clothes are manufactured in close proximity to Madrid, and we strive to work with local suppliers and distributors.

Sometimes that cannot be done: some 10% of the raw materials we use come from countries such as Japan, Indonesia and Singapore, though we work each day to bring all our suppliers a little closer. And the most important thing: we aim to eradicate completely the use of plastic along our production and distribution chain.

The Plastic Age

Human history is often described by the technology and materials that were used during a particular period – such as the Stone Age, Iron Age and the Bronze Age. Some would argue that we are now living through a new period – the Plastic Age. The world produces 335 million tonnes of plastic every year, of which 91% goes unrecycled. And more than 8 million tons end up in the sea.

There are countless unnecessary objects that come with a piece of clothing (receipts, tags, bags) which we only use once for a few seconds and then proceed to turn into junk that will go into a landfill or even our oceans. At Cosmosophie, this is one of the issues that we have been determined to tackle from the very beginning. Each of our products is delivered in boxes made of recycled cardboard. We aim to eradicate completely the use of plastic along our production and distribution chain. In same cases this is today still impossible – as with rolls of fabric – but we have eliminated plastic in our workshops, finding alternative ways of bagging and protecting our clothes during transport.

The box that you will receive in your house only contains cardboard or recycled and recyclable paper.
